Fire Station Field Trip!

Two firemen got in their full gear and turned their oxygen on and everything.  This is so that the kids would know what they looked and sounded like and would not be afraid of them!  Then they crawled around on the ground and let the kids come to them, touch them, etc.  So cool!  They talked to them through their masks, asking them their names.  Also interesting is that if the firefighter was still and did not move for 30 seconds, his tank started a loud beeping.  That way, if a firefighter goes down, the others know and know where to find him!

 

This was such a fun and informative field trip!  The firefighters were all so nice to the kids!  They also got to go in a firetruck, see where the firefighters eat and sleep, and they also had the dispatch call in an alarm so the kids could see how it buzzes and lights up in the sleeping quarters.  We also got to watch a firefighter climb up the tall ladder on the truck!!

 

The girls are clearly Travis's children and are not shy (I was much more shy than they seem to be!).  During the question and answer session, Camille attempted to answer pretty much every question with "Call 9-1-1"!  It was pretty funny.  Example:  What do you do if your clothes catch on fire?  Camille:  Call 9-1-1.  Correct answer:  Stop, drop and roll :)  What do you do if there's a lot of smoke in your house?  Camille:  Call 9-1-1.  Not a bad answer, but they were looking for:  Get Low and Go!
